He joined Mitsubishi Corporation in April 1975 and moved to Seikosha in July 1984. He became a Director of Seiko Precision in January 1996 and its President in June 2001, and President of Seiko Watch in June 2003, before becoming a Director of Seiko in June 2007 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2009. Among the major shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2010, just before he took office, Reijiro Hattori ranked second with 9.7% and Hattori himself third with 6.1%, with Sanko Kigyo the largest at 13.2%.
