Background
He joined Nissho Iwai in April 1974 and moved to ASICS in January 1982. In July 2001 he took charge of the European business as President of ASICS Europe, and became a Director in June 2004 and Managing Director in July 2006. He had spent 26 years at ASICS by the time he became President.
Selection
In April 2008 he succeeded Kiyomi Wada as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2008, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥226.2 billion and operating income ¥23.4 billion, the second straight year of growth in both from ¥171.0 billion and ¥16.4 billion in the FY ended March 2006. He was promoted from Managing Director after leading an overseas subsidiary.
Initiatives
In August 2010 the company made Haglöfs Holding AB of Sweden a consolidated subsidiary, entering the outdoor business. In September 2012 it set up ASICS Japan to handle domestic sales, and in January 2013 it separated its global headquarters functions from its Japan business. In March 2014 it made ASICS Trading a wholly owned subsidiary through a tender offer and share exchange, and in March 2016 it acquired FitnessKeeper, Inc. of the United States, gaining a digital platform. It changed its fiscal year-end from March to December with the fiscal year ended December 2014.
