Background

He joined Mitsubishi Corporation in April 1980, becoming an Executive Officer in April 2010 and Representative Director and Senior Executive Vice President in June 2014. After 38 years at Mitsubishi Corporation he became an adviser to ASICS in January 2018 and two months later, in March of that year, Representative Director, President and COO. He took office after only two months at ASICS, a different route from his predecessor Motoi Oyama, who had spent 26 years at the company from joining.

Education: Waseda University, School of Political Science and Economics (1980)

Selection

In March 2018 he succeeded Motoi Oyama as Representative Director, President and COO. In the fiscal year ended December 2017, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥400.2 billion and operating income ¥19.6 billion, the second straight year of decline from operating income of ¥27.4 billion in the FY ended December 2015. His title on taking office was President and COO, and he did not add the CEO role until four years later in March 2022. The chief executive role appears to have stayed with Motoi Oyama, who gave up the presidency to become Chairman after serving as Chairman and President.

Initiatives

In October 2019 the company acquired the business of Fast North Corporation of the United States, gaining a digital platform for running. In August 2022 it made R-bies a consolidated subsidiary jointly with Nippon Television Holdings. In December 2023 it sold its shares in Haglöfs AB, withdrawing from the outdoor business. Results recovered from an operating loss of ¥4.0 billion and a net loss of ¥16.1 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2020, and by the FY ended December 2023, his last year, net sales had grown to ¥570.5 billion and operating income to ¥54.2 billion.
