Background

Tsutomu Yoneyama joined Yonex Boeki Co., Ltd. (now Yonex's overseas sales department) in August 1981 and became a Director four years later in August 1985. He also headed overseas sales subsidiaries, becoming Representative Director and Chairman of YONEX CANADA LIMITED in February 1992 and Representative Director and President of YONEX CORPORATION U.S.A. in January 1996. In Japan he became head of the SCM Division in July 2004, Senior Managing Director in June 2005 and head of the Legal Office in December 2005. In the fiscal year ended March 2014 he held 2,084,000 shares.

Selection

In June 2007 Tsutomu Yoneyama succeeded Kosaku Yoneyama as Representative Director and President. Among the top ten shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2006, four individuals with the Yoneyama surname were listed, led by Minoru Yoneyama with 13.75%, but Tsutomu was not among them. By the FY ended March 2011 Tsutomu was the largest shareholder with 8.90%, and Minoru had dropped to 4.34%. In the officer list for the FY ended March 2014, Representative Director and Senior Managing Director Soju Hayashida had taken 17 years from joining in 1980 to becoming a Director in 1997, while Tsutomu became a Director four years after joining.

Initiatives

During his tenure he reshaped the overseas sales network, establishing YONEX GOLF CHINA CO.,LTD. in China in July 2010 and, in August 2011, liquidating the Canadian subsidiary YONEX CANADA LIMITED and transferring its operations to the U.S. subsidiary. In November 2014 the company consolidated its logistics bases nationwide into two, opening the East and West Japan Logistics Centers. Consolidated net sales moved from ¥36.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2008, his first year, to ¥47.6 billion in the FY ended March 2015, his last, and operating income from ¥1.6 billion to ¥2.1 billion. When he stepped down, he installed as his successor Soju Hayashida, who did not bear the Yoneyama name.
