Background
He joined the company in April 1981 and became General Manager of Development in August 2009, coming from the development side. From April 2012 he also served as President of Citizen Fine Device, and in April 2017 also as President of Citizen Watch Manufacturing. At the parent company he became a Director in June 2015, Managing Director in June 2017 and Senior Managing Director in April 2018.

In April 2019 he succeeded Toshio Tokura as President. The promotion came only four years after he became a Director and after just one year as Senior Managing Director. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, net sales of ¥321.6 billion and operating income of ¥22.4 billion were on a par with the previous year, but consolidated employees had fallen by 2,137, from 17,046 in the FY ended March 2016 to 14,909. The change passed the post from a predecessor who came from the sales company to a development man who had led manufacturing subsidiaries.

In the fiscal year ended March 2021, his second year, net sales were ¥206.6 billion, with an operating loss of ¥9.6 billion and a net loss of ¥25.1 billion; net sales were 36% below the ¥321.6 billion of the year before he took office. In the following FY ended March 2022 net sales recovered to ¥281.4 billion and operating income to ¥22.3 billion, and in the FY ended March 2025, his last year, they were ¥316.8 billion and ¥20.6 billion. Consolidated employees fell by 2,974, from 14,909 in the FY ended March 2019 to 11,935 in the FY ended March 2024.
