Background

Born in March 1939, he joined Sharp in April 1961 and moved to Taiyo Kosaku in June 1967. In April 1974 he became Representative Director and President of Asahi Mini Rope, and in July 1976 he founded Asahi Intecc (originally named Asahi Mini Rope Hanbai) and became its President. In June 1981 he also became Representative Director and President of Chubu Kinzoku Kogyo. In the shareholder register for the fiscal year ended June 2006, he was the fifth-largest shareholder, holding 934,400 shares, or 5.86% of Asahi Intecc.

Education: Hosei University, Faculty of Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Selection

As the first President, he had no predecessor. Asahi Intecc was set up as the sales arm of Asahi Mini Rope, which had been founded in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, in April 1972 to manufacture ultra-fine stainless steel rope, in order to smooth dealings with manufacturers in the Chubu region. It was established in Moriyama Ward, Nagoya, in July 1976 with capital of ¥7 million, and Miyata, who had been Representative Director and President of Asahi Mini Rope for the previous two years, became its founding Representative Director and President.

Initiatives

In July 1988 the company changed its name to Asahi Intecc and shifted from sales to manufacturing. In September 1989 it set up its first overseas production subsidiary in Thailand, and in October 1991 it built the Seto Medical Plant in Seto, Aichi Prefecture. In March 1992 it received a license to manufacture medical devices from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and commercialized Japan's first PCI guide wire for treating myocardial infarction. It registered its shares over the counter in July 2004 and listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in June 2005. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥5.2 billion in the fiscal year ended June 2002 to ¥12.7 billion in the FY ended June 2009.
