Background

He joined NTT Data Communications Systems in April 1992 and moved to Asahi Intecc in November 1994, becoming head of the planning office in the general headquarters. He then became a Director in December 1995, Managing Director in March 1999, Senior Managing Director in September 2001 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in March 2004. Among the major shareholders in the fiscal year ended June 2006, before he became President, three individuals with the Miyata surname, Akihiko Miyata with 9.45%, Naohiko Miyata with 5.86% and Yui Miyata with 3.00%, together held a little over 18%.

In September 2009 he succeeded Naohiko Miyata as Representative Director, President and CEO. This came five and a half years after he became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in March 2004 and in his 15th year since joining in November 1994. In the fiscal year ended June 2009, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥12.7 billion, ordinary income ¥1.4 billion and net income ¥0.4 billion. Net income had declined for two straight years, from ¥1.2 billion in the FY ended June 2007 and ¥0.5 billion in the FY ended June 2008.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended June 2009, when he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥12.7 billion and operating income ¥1.8 billion. By the FY ended June 2024, when he stepped down, net sales had reached ¥107.5 billion and operating income ¥22.1 billion. In September 2009, the same month he became President, he also became Representative Director and President of Filmecc, and in April 2023 also of Magnea. Among the major shareholders in the FY ended June 2011, St. Jude Medical of the United States ranked fourth with 4.46%. In September 2024 he stepped back to Chairman of the Board, and Kenji Miyata succeeded him.
