Background
He joined Tamron in April 1981 and came up through optical development. He became Executive Officer and head of the Optical Development Division in January 2005 and Senior Executive Officer in January 2008. He became a Director in March 2014 and Executive Vice President in March 2016, overseeing the Optical Development Division, the Fundamental Development Division and the R&D Center. His career took him to President not from sales or administration but from the product technology side.
Selection
In August 2023 he succeeded Shiro Ajisaka as President. In the fiscal year ended December 2022, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥63.4 billion and operating income ¥11.0 billion, the highest profit level of Ajisaka's seven years. An executive who had served as Executive Vice President since March 2016 took over in the middle of a fiscal year. Since the year before he took office brought the highest profits of his predecessor's tenure, the change was not driven by results.
Initiatives
After he took office, consolidated net sales grew to ¥71.4 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2023 and ¥88.5 billion in the FY ended December 2024, and operating income rose from ¥13.6 billion to ¥19.2 billion. In the FY ended December 2025 they were ¥85.1 billion and ¥16.6 billion, slightly below the previous year. The shareholder structure also changed: Newell, the largest shareholder with 17.81% in the FY ended December 2014, disappeared from the top 10 in the FY ended December 2025, and Sony Group stood first with 15.35%.
