Background
He joined Tamron in April 1978. From April 1990 he handled European sales as President of TAMRON Europe, and became an Executive Officer in January 2005. He rose to Director in March 2010 and Senior Managing Director in March 2014, and became President in March 2016. It took him 38 years from joining to become President, and his 11 years as an executive grew out of a career that started in overseas sales.
Selection
In March 2016 he succeeded Morio Ono as President. In the fiscal year ended December 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥71.9 billion and operating income ¥4.6 billion, lower sales and profits than the ¥73.6 billion and ¥6.1 billion of the year before. Results fell further in the FY ended December 2016, when he took office, shrinking to net sales of ¥59.9 billion and operating income of ¥2.4 billion. The appointment appears to have entrusted the recovery of scale to an executive with long experience in overseas sales.
Initiatives
Results that fell to consolidated net sales of ¥59.9 billion and operating income of ¥2.4 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2016, the year he took office, recovered to ¥63.3 billion and ¥7.0 billion in the FY ended December 2019. They fell to ¥48.4 billion and ¥3.6 billion in the FY ended December 2020, but recovered to ¥63.4 billion and ¥11.0 billion in the FY ended December 2022 and ¥71.4 billion and ¥13.6 billion in the FY ended December 2023, the year he stepped down. Net sales matched the ¥71.9 billion of the year before he took office, and operating income nearly tripled.
