Background
He joined Workman in March 1990. After serving as General Manager of the Trading, Merchandise and Supervising departments, he became an Executive Officer in June 2016 and a Director in June 2017, and became Representative Director and President in April 2019, 29 years after joining. He had no capital backing. The top shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2015 were Beisia Kogyo at 28.15%, Yuga Tsuchiya at 14.66% and Cainz at 9.65%, a mix of operating companies and an individual.

In April 2019 he succeeded Kiyoharu Kuriyama as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, non-consolidated net sales were ¥49.8 billion and operating income ¥13.5 billion, up from ¥41.7 billion and ¥10.6 billion the year before. The promotion came two years after he joined the board in June 2017.
Initiatives
In 2020 Workman entered a new format, "#Workman Joshi," aimed at ordinary women and non-tradesperson customers. Non-consolidated net sales doubled from ¥49.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, to ¥99.7 billion in the FY ended March 2025, and operating income rose from ¥13.5 billion to ¥24.4 billion. After peaking at ¥26.8 billion in the FY ended March 2022, operating income hovered between ¥23.0 billion and ¥25.0 billion, and in the FY ended March 2026, the year he stepped down, total operating revenue was ¥160.9 billion and operating income ¥29.7 billion.
