Background

He joined the Ministry of Finance in April 2004 and spent 12 years in government. In June 2016 he joined Zensho Holdings as an Executive Officer, becoming a Director in June 2017, Managing Director in June 2021 and Executive Vice President in February 2025. It took him nine years from joining to become President. Shareholdings are skewed toward one company: in the fiscal year ended March 2026, the largest shareholder is Nihon Create with 36.16%, with second-place The Master Trust Bank of Japan at only 7.92%.

Education: Keio University

Selection

In June 2025 he succeeded Kentaro Ogawa, President for 43 years, as Representative Director, President and CEO. It was the first change of president since the founding in 1982. He had risen to Executive Vice President four months earlier, in February 2025, and was promoted from there. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,136.7 billion and operating income ¥75.1 billion, both above the previous year. He shares his predecessor's surname, Ogawa, and the change appears to be a succession within the founding family.

Initiatives

As he took office, his predecessor Kentaro Ogawa moved to Representative Director and Chairman, ending the 16-year combination of chairman and president that had begun in June 2009. The scale he inherited was consolidated net sales of ¥1,136.7 billion and operating income of ¥75.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2025. The capital structure did not change around the handover, and Nihon Create still held 36.16% in the FY ended March 2026.
