Selection

He became President in January 2005. In the fiscal year ended March 2004, the year before he took office, the company posted a net loss of ¥215.4 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥2,519.4 billion, and in the FY ended March 2005, his first year, losses widened with net sales of ¥2,122.6 billion, an operating loss of ¥128.5 billion and a net loss of ¥474.7 billion. Employees also fell by 6,654 over those two years, from 43,624 to 36,970. In effect, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corporation, which together held 29.41% of the shares as of the FY ended March 2006, sent in the head of the trading house's automotive unit.

Initiatives

After posting a net loss of ¥474.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2005, his first year, he brought net income back into the black at ¥8.7 billion in the FY ended March 2007 and ¥34.7 billion in the FY ended March 2008. He returned as President in December 2016, a return that appears to have followed the discovery of fuel economy data fraud.
