Background

He joined Mitsubishi Motors in April 1984. In April 2015 he became President of the Indonesian subsidiary Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia, and from that post rose in June 2019 to Director, Representative Executive Officer and CEO. He took the top job in his 35th year with the company; his career shows no prior seat on the head office board, and he moved directly from running an overseas subsidiary to the top. In April 2021 he became Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO.

Selection

In June 2019 he succeeded Osamu Masuko as Representative Executive Officer and CEO. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥2,514.5 billion, operating income ¥111.8 billion and net income ¥132.8 billion, a recovery from the FY ended March 2017, when the company posted a net loss of ¥198.5 billion. Masuko remained as Chairman and Representative Executive Officer. It was a bold promotion lifting the president of an overseas subsidiary to the top of the head office.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2021, his second year, consolidated net sales fell to ¥1,455.4 billion, and the company posted an operating loss of ¥95.3 billion and a net loss of ¥312.3 billion. From there he appears to have moved into a structural reform centered on shrinking in Europe and concentrating on Southeast Asia. In the FY ended March 2023 the company returned to operating income of ¥190.5 billion and net income of ¥168.7 billion. Employees fell by 3,189, from 32,171 in the FY ended March 2020 to 28,982 in the FY ended March 2024. Operating income for the FY ended March 2026 was ¥75.5 billion, only 40% of the FY ended March 2023.
