Selection

His predecessor Osamu Masuko had joined Mitsubishi Corporation in 1972, moved to Mitsubishi Motors in June 2004 as Managing Director in charge of the Overseas Operations Group and became President in January 2005. In June 2014 Masuko moved to Chairman and CEO, and Aikawa became President and COO. The board for the same fiscal year ended March 2015 also included Kei Harunari, who had moved over from Mitsubishi Corporation, as Executive Vice President. The major shareholders as of the FY ended March 2010 were led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at 15.16% and Mitsubishi Corporation at 13.99%, and the arrangement appears to have split roles between a CEO from the trading house and a career-employee COO.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2015, his first year, net sales were ¥2,180.7 billion and operating income ¥135.9 billion; in the FY ended March 2016 they were ¥2,267.8 billion and ¥138.4 billion. In 2015 the company withdrew from production in the United States, ending production at its Illinois plant. Consolidated employees fell from 30,498 in the FY ended March 2015 to 29,555 in the FY ended March 2016. True to his career path from head of the Production Group to President, the decisions of his tenure appear to have leaned toward reshuffling production bases.
