Background
He joined Goldman Sachs Japan in April 2007 and, after five and a half years, moved to Lifenet Insurance in September 2012. He became General Manager of Planning in May 2013 and Executive Officer and head of Corporate Strategy in January 2016, entering from the side that draws up management plans. In April 2017 he moved to Executive Officer and head of Sales, taking charge of selling products, and became Director and Executive Officer that June. Not from a life insurer, he reached the board five years after moving from securities.
Selection
In June 2018 he succeeded Daisuke Iwase as Representative Director and President, five years and nine months after joining and one year after joining the board. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before, the company had an operating loss of ¥0.2 billion on ordinary revenue of ¥11.0 billion, narrowed from the previous year's ¥2.0 billion operating loss but still short of profitability. It was a fast appointment: a director five years and President six years after entering from outside the insurance industry.
Initiatives
In 2022, through a business alliance with au Jibun Bank, the company entered group credit life insurance, adding a channel beyond direct sales to individuals. Non-consolidated insurance premiums and other income grew from ¥11.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2018 to ¥26.2 billion in FY ended March 2022, but operating results remained in the red throughout. After moving to consolidated reporting, the company posted operating income of ¥5.3 billion in FY ended March 2023, and in FY ended March 2025 ordinary revenue was ¥30.1 billion, operating income ¥9.2 billion and net income ¥6.0 billion. He stepped down as President in June 2025.
