He joined Namura Shipbuilding in April 1997, became Director and Executive Officer in June 2005 and Director and Senior Executive Officer in April 2008, and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2010, 13 years after joining. He shares a surname with his predecessor Tatsuhiko Namura, but the top major shareholders for the fiscal year ended March 2011 were corporations—Nippon Steel with 7.23%, MUFG Bank with 4.40% and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines with 4.27%—with no individuals in the top ten.

Selection

In April 2011 he succeeded Tatsuhiko Namura as Representative Director and President. His predecessor moved from Representative Director, Chairman and President to Chairman, handing over only the presidency. In the fiscal year ended March 2011, the year before, consolidated net sales were ¥136.0 billion and operating income ¥6.6 billion, down from ¥8.8 billion the previous year. He was promoted one year after becoming Executive Vice President.

Initiatives

In October 2014 the company made Sasebo Heavy Industries a wholly owned subsidiary through a share exchange, creating a three-site structure of Imari, Hakodate and Sasebo. He also served as Representative Director and President of Sasebo Heavy Industries. Operating losses continued from the fiscal year ended March 2017 to FY ended March 2022, with an operating loss of ¥19.4 billion in FY ended March 2018. In 2022 the company suspended Sasebo Heavy Industries' newbuilding business, consolidating shipbuilding at Imari. Operating income recovered to ¥9.6 billion in FY ended March 2023, and in FY ended March 2025 net sales were ¥159.2 billion and operating income ¥29.5 billion.
