Background
A career employee, he joined Pioneer in April 1981. He became Executive Officer in June 2013, 32 years after joining. He advanced to Managing Executive Officer in June 2015 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2017, rising to President a year later.
Selection
In June 2018 he succeeded Susumu Kotani as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer, a promotion one year after joining the board. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥365.4 billion, down 19% in two years from ¥449.6 billion in the FY ended March 2016, and the company posted an ordinary loss of ¥3.1 billion and a net loss of ¥7.1 billion. His predecessor Kotani became Chairman and Executive Officer the same month.
Initiatives
The year after he took office, Pioneer came under the umbrella of Baring Private Equity Asia and was delisted. Annual securities report filings ceased thereafter, so consolidated results and initiatives during his tenure cannot be traced from those reports. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, just before, consolidated net sales were ¥365.4 billion and operating income ¥1.2 billion; although profitable at the operating level, the company posted an ordinary loss of ¥3.1 billion.
