Selection

When his predecessor Yozo Ishizuka died suddenly while in office, he took over the presidency as an emergency succession. His tenure then lasted about 25 years, with everything from a change in fiscal year-end to the establishment of overseas bases carried out under a single President.

Initiatives

In January 1982 the company merged two US sales companies to form Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., and in March 1989 changed its fiscal year-end from September 30 to March 31. It established Pioneer Electronics Asiacentre Pte. Ltd. in Singapore in June 1992 and Pioneer China Holding Co., Ltd. in China in April 2001. In September 2003 it transferred the shares of Pioneer LDC and Pioneer Entertainment (USA) Inc. to Dentsu, and in September 2004 acquired all outstanding shares of NEC Plasma Display, renaming it Pioneer Plasma Display. Consolidated net sales grew to ¥711.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2005, while that year the company posted a net loss of ¥8.7 billion.
