Background
A career employee, he joined TDK in April 1989. He became Executive Officer in June 2011, Senior Vice President in June 2013 and a Director in June 2015, becoming President after 11 years as an executive. Whereas his predecessor Shigenao Ishiguro rose from Senior Vice President to President without serving as a Director, Saito spent seven years as a Director.
Selection
In April 2022 he succeeded Shigenao Ishiguro as President and Executive Officer, becoming Representative Director in June that year, when Ishiguro moved to Representative Director and Chairman. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,902.1 billion and operating income ¥234.2 billion, both record highs. The title of CEO was added in April 2024.
Initiatives
The mid-term management plan announced in May 2024 set targets of ¥2.5 trillion in net sales for fiscal 2026 and capital-efficient management that widens the gap between ROIC and WACC. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,902.1 billion in the year before he took office to ¥2,504.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, and operating income from ¥234.2 billion to ¥272.4 billion. He has positioned AI-related markets as the core business focus.
