Background
A career employee who joined in April 1982, he became a senior officer in June 2011 and a Director in June 2012. Three years after joining the board, in June 2015, he became Director, President and CEO. He was the second President of the holding company GS Yuasa Corporation, after his predecessor Makoto Yoda. He spent 33 years in the company from joining to becoming President, and 42 years including his time up to becoming Chairman in June 2024.

In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥369.7 billion and operating income ¥20.9 billion, up from ¥347.9 billion and ¥18.2 billion the previous year. At the end of that year the largest shareholder was The Master Trust Bank of Japan (trust account) with 6.02%, and among operating companies Toyota Motor held 2.70%. Rather than cleaning up after losses, he took over a growing business whose shareholders included automotive battery customers.
Initiatives
In 2016 the company took over Panasonic's lead-acid battery business, making Panasonic Storage Battery a subsidiary. The acquisition consolidated domestic lead-acid batteries under the company and was the biggest decision of his nine years in office. Consolidated net sales grew 1.5 times from ¥369.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, to ¥562.8 billion in the FY ended March 2024, his final year. Operating income rose from ¥20.9 billion to ¥41.6 billion and net income from ¥10.0 billion to ¥32.0 billion. Employees fell from 14,506 to 12,892.
