Background
He joined Japan Storage Battery in April 1989. From March 2003 he served as President of the US subsidiary GS Battery U.S.A., and he became Executive Officer in June 2016. He became head of the Automotive Battery Division in April 2023 and, one year and two months later in June 2024, Director, President and CEO. GS Yuasa Corporation was formed in 2004 through the integration of Japan Storage Battery and Yuasa Corporation; he is a career employee who joined Japan Storage Battery before the integration and passed through management of an overseas sales subsidiary and the core automotive battery business.
Selection
In June 2024 he succeeded Osamu Murao, who had served nine years, as Director, President and CEO. His career in the annual securities report shows no directorship; he went straight from Executive Officer and head of the Automotive Battery Division to President. In the fiscal year ended March 2024, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥562.8 billion, operating income ¥41.6 billion and net income ¥32.0 billion, above the previous year's ¥517.7 billion, ¥31.5 billion and ¥13.9 billion. This was not a turnaround but a handover to the man who had run the core automotive battery business.
Initiatives
In the fiscal year ended March 2025, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥580.3 billion and operating income ¥50.0 billion, up from ¥562.8 billion and ¥41.6 billion the previous year. Net income fell from ¥32.0 billion to ¥30.4 billion. Among major shareholders, Honda Motor ranks third with 4.89%, ahead of Toyota Motor's 2.23%.
