Selection

In January 2009 he became Representative Director and President mid-year, without an intervening annual shareholders' meeting. His predecessor was Daisuke Hatakake. In the fiscal year ended March 2009, when he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,107.4 billion, down from ¥1,154.5 billion the year before, and they fell further to ¥930.4 billion in FY ended March 2010. Tetsuji Tomita, Satoru Sakamoto and Masatoshi Kimata, on the same roster of executives, joined between 1973 and 1977 and took 28 to 32 years to reach the board; Masumoto, who joined in 1971 and took 31 years, fits within that pattern.

Initiatives

In December 2009 the company established Kubota Saudi Arabia Co., LLC as a base for its cast steel business, and in March 2012 acquired Kverneland ASA, a Norwegian maker of implements for field crops, making it a subsidiary. In March 2013 it dissolved its pipe joint venture in India, Tata Metaliks Kubota Pipes Ltd. Consolidated net sales rose from ¥930.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2010 to ¥1,510.5 billion in FY ended March 2014, operating income from ¥69.7 billion to ¥212.4 billion, and employees from 24,778 to 33,845.
