Background

He joined the company in April 1985 and became plant manager of Komatsu America's Chattanooga plant in April 2004. He advanced to Executive Officer in April 2010, Managing Executive Officer in April 2015 and Senior Executive Officer in April 2018, becoming Director and Senior Executive Officer that June.

In April 2019 he succeeded Tetsuji Ohashi as president. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, just before, consolidated net sales were ¥2,725.2 billion and income before taxes ¥377.5 billion, up from ¥1,802.9 billion and ¥166.5 billion in FY ended March 2017, before the Joy Global acquisition was completed. The acquisition procedures had been completed in April 2017.

Initiatives

In July 2021, part of the rights and obligations of the Smart Construction business was transferred to Landlog, which changed its name to EARTHBRAIN. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, consolidated net sales were ¥2,802.3 billion and net income attributable to shareholders ¥224.9 billion.
