Background
He joined Nissho Iwai (now Sojitz) in April 1975 and moved to GE Japan in October 1986. In September 1997 he became a company officer of General Electric Company and President and CEO of GE Medical Systems Asia, and in May 2001 a Senior Vice President and President and CEO of GE Plastics. He became President and CEO of GE Asia Pacific in January 2003 and Chairman of GE Japan in January 2005.
Selection
He became Chairman of GE Japan in March 2011, joined the boards of JS Group and LIXIL that June, and became Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO in August. His predecessor Yoichiro Ushioda gave up the CEO title, remaining Representative Executive Officer, Chairman and chair of the nomination committee. Four months before he took office, Tostem had absorbed INAX, Shin Nikkei, Toyo Exterior and one other company to launch LIXIL Corporation, and consolidated net sales in FY ended March 2011 were ¥1,214.9 billion.
Initiatives
In August 2013 the company acquired shares of ASD Americas Holding Corp., making its 19 subsidiaries group subsidiaries. In April 2015 it acquired shares of GROHE Group S.a r.l., adding its 53 subsidiaries as consolidated subsidiaries through making GraceA Co., Ltd. a subsidiary. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,291.4 billion in FY ended March 2012 to ¥1,673.4 billion in FY ended March 2015.
