He joined Yamato Kogyo in March 1969 and became a Director four years and nine months later, in December 1973. After serving as Managing Director from June 1974 and Representative Director and Senior Managing Director from January 1978, he became President in December 1981, 12 years and nine months after joining. Initiatives
In 1987 he established Nucor-Yamato Steel as a joint venture with Nucor of the United States, entering the North American H-beam business. In 2003 the company spun off its railway track materials, steel and heavy-industry fabrication businesses and became a pure holding company. It then expanded through joint ventures in South Korea, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥99.3 billion in FY ended March 2006 to ¥151.0 billion in FY ended March 2016, while ordinary profit went from ¥32.2 billion to ¥23.6 billion.
