Background

He joined Nippon Oil in April 1979 and became an Executive Officer of Nippon Oil Corporation (Shin Nippon Sekiyu) in April 2008. He became Director and Managing Executive Officer of JX Nippon Oil & Energy in July 2010 and its Representative Director and President in June 2014. Before becoming president of the holding company, he had led the operating company responsible for oil refining and marketing itself for four years.

His predecessor was Yukio Uchida. In June 2018 he became Representative Director and President of JXTG Holdings. The change came right after he had driven the April 2017 integration with the TonenGeneral Sekiyu group as President of the operating company JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2018, consolidated revenue was ¥10,301.0 billion and operating income ¥487.5 billion, both up from ¥8,136.0 billion and ¥271.1 billion in FY ended March 2017, before the integration.

Initiatives

In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2019, consolidated revenue was ¥11,129.6 billion, operating income ¥537.1 billion and net income attributable to owners of the parent ¥322.3 billion. In his second year, FY ended March 2020, the company swung to an operating loss of ¥113.1 billion and a net loss attributable to owners of the parent of ¥187.9 billion. In June 2020 the holding company changed its name from JXTG Holdings to ENEOS Holdings, and the main operating company also became ENEOS Corporation.
