Background

He joined Nippon Oil in April 1986 and became head of the operating company's Industrial Fuels Department in June 2014. He became an Executive Officer of JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy in April 2017 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in April 2019. In June 2021 he became Director and Executive Vice President of the holding company ENEOS Holdings, assisting the President as CDO. He entered the holding company's management from a career selling industrial fuels.

In 2023 the company halted oil refining at the Wakayama refinery. In his second year, FY ended March 2024, results recovered to revenue of ¥12,344.5 billion, operating income of ¥381.4 billion and net income of ¥288.1 billion. Consolidated employees increased from 41,852 in FY ended March 2022 to 44,617 in FY ended March 2023.
