He moved between foreign IT companies, becoming Executive Officer of Inter-Tel and President of Inter-Tel Japan in June 1993, joining EMC Japan in May 2001, Cisco Systems in May 2009 and Hewlett-Packard Japan as Managing Executive Officer in March 2010. In October 2013 he joined Oracle Corporation, handling global business as Senior Vice President.

Education: University, Business Administration (withdrew, 1982)

Selection

In April 2014, while remaining a Senior Vice President at Oracle's U.S. headquarters, he became Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO of Oracle Japan, succeeding Derek H. Williams. He was elected a Director four months later, in August 2014, taking the top executive post first. As of the fiscal year ended May 2011, Oracle Japan Holding, Inc. held 74.7% of Oracle Japan's shares, and the choice of president rests with the parent. Sugihara himself held 2,000 shares as of FY ended May 2016.

Initiatives

Revenue grew from ¥155.0 billion in the fiscal year ended May 2014, before he took office, to ¥170.2 billion in FY ended May 2016, his second year. Operating income also rose over the same period from ¥44.3 billion to ¥50.2 billion. On the other hand, the last entry in the corporate history section of the annual securities report for FY ended May 2016 is the opening of an office in the Akasaka Center Building in June 2013, with nothing added after he took office.
