Background

He joined Oriental Land in April 1984. He became an Executive Officer in April 2015 and a Managing Executive Officer in April 2019, and in June 2021 became Representative Director, President and COO. It took him 31 years from joining to become an Executive Officer, and he joined the board in June 2021, the same month he became President. In the fiscal year ended March 2015 the largest shareholder was Keisei Electric Railway with 19.97%, followed by Mitsui Fudosan with 8.46%, and no individuals were among the top ten shareholders.

Selection

In June 2021 he became Representative Director, President and COO, succeeding Kyoichiro Uenishi. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2021, revenue was ¥170.5 billion with an operating loss of ¥46.0 billion, revenue having shrunk to a third of the previous year's ¥464.4 billion, when operating income was ¥96.9 billion. The appointment appears to have entrusted him with a recovery after the park closures.

Initiatives

In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2022, revenue was ¥275.7 billion and operating income ¥7.7 billion, a return to profit from the previous year's operating loss of ¥46.0 billion. He continued the new area investment decided by Kyoichiro Uenishi without scaling it back, even as the total grew from about ¥250 billion to about ¥320 billion. In FY ended March 2024, revenue was ¥618.4 billion and operating income ¥165.4 billion, exceeding the pre-pandemic record of ¥525.6 billion and ¥129.3 billion in FY ended March 2019. In FY ended March 2025, his final year, the figures were ¥679.3 billion and ¥172.1 billion.
