Background
He joined Keisei Electric Railway in 1958 and moved to Oriental Land in October 1976 as head of the Real Estate Division. He became Director and head of General Affairs and Personnel in 1981, and greeted the 1983 opening of Tokyo Disneyland as the officer in charge of administration. He became Director and Executive Vice President in 1993. Keisei Electric Railway, where he started, has remained the largest shareholder, holding 20.0% in the fiscal year ended March 2026.
Selection
In June 1995 he became President, succeeding Kozo Kato. The promotion came 19 years after he moved to Oriental Land and after two years as Director and Executive Vice President. Tokyo Disneyland, opened in 1983, was then a single park in its 12th year. The appointment appears to have been meant to handle the next major investment and the financing for it.
Initiatives
The company listed its shares in 1996, becoming a public company, and opened Tokyo DisneySea in 2001, moving to a two-park structure. After the opening, consolidated revenue was ¥281.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2002 and ¥331.0 billion in FY ended March 2005, and ordinary income rose from ¥23.8 billion to ¥30.8 billion. Employees increased from 3,514 in FY ended March 2002 to 3,695 in FY ended March 2005.
