Background
He joined the company in April 1987 and became General Manager of Lifecycle Management Department II in October 2008. From April 2011 to September 2013 he served as President of Roche Products Ireland, running a local subsidiary of the parent from the outside. After returning he headed the Oncology Unit in the Sales Division, then became an Executive Officer in January 2014 and Senior Executive Officer in April 2017.

In March 2020 he became President, succeeding Tatsuro Kosaka, who moved to Representative Director and Chairman. In the fiscal year ended December 2019, the year before he took office, revenue was ¥686.1 billion and operating income ¥210.6 billion, both above ¥579.7 billion and ¥124.3 billion the year before. Roche's stake stood at 59.89% at the end of December 2014, and a person who had led a local subsidiary on the parent's side was elevated from Senior Executive Officer.
Initiatives
In March 2021 his title was changed to Representative Director, President and CEO. In April 2022 the company integrated its development and sales functions in China, speeding up local decision-making. In March 2023 it closed the Fuji Gotemba and Kamakura research laboratories, consolidating its research functions. Revenue grew from ¥686.1 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2019, the year before he took office, to ¥1,257.9 billion in FY ended December 2025, and operating income from ¥210.6 billion to ¥598.8 billion.
