Background

He joined ADEKA in April 1985 and spent 33 years there, without working at any other company, before becoming President. In June 2014 he became Executive Officer and General Manager of Chemical Products Planning, handling planning for the chemicals business. He became Director and Executive Officer in June 2016 and Director, Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of Corporate Planning in June 2017, overseeing company-wide corporate planning for the year before he took office. He was appointed after moving from business-side planning to company-wide planning.

Selection

In June 2018 he became President, succeeding Akio Kori. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥239.6 billion, operating income ¥21.3 billion and net income ¥15.3 billion, roughly flat from ¥223.4 billion, ¥21.0 billion and ¥15.3 billion the year before. He was promoted from Director, Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of Corporate Planning, and the change was not a response to deteriorating results.

Initiatives

In 2018 the company acquired 51% of Nihon Nohyaku through a tender offer and third-party allotment, bringing back as a consolidated subsidiary the agrochemical business it had separated in 1928. From 2022 it concentrated management resources on semiconductor materials, expanding production capacity for high-k ALD materials. Net sales grew from ¥239.6 billion in the year before he took office to ¥416.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, operating income from ¥21.3 billion to ¥41.6 billion, and net income from ¥15.3 billion to ¥27.9 billion.
