Background
He joined Cosmos Pharmaceutical in April 2003. In his 13th year, August 2016, he became Director and General Manager of Store Operations, then Director and General Manager of Sales in August 2017, and Representative Director and President in June 2018. It took him 15 years from joining to the presidency, and he was a career employee who rose to the board from the division running the stores.
Selection
In June 2018 he succeeded Futoshi Shibata as Representative Director and President. His predecessor had served only about ten months from August 2017, so after founder Masaaki Uno's 34 years this was the second change in little more than a year. In the FY ended May 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales rose to ¥557.9 billion, but operating income of ¥22.7 billion was barely up from ¥22.2 billion the year before, and net income fell from ¥18.2 billion to ¥17.6 billion.
Initiatives
He expanded the setup of placing prescription dispensing inside the drugstores. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥611.1 billion in the FY ended May 2019, his first year, to ¥1,011.3 billion in the FY ended May 2025, and operating income from ¥24.8 billion to ¥40.4 billion. In August 2019 he also became Representative Director of group company Green Flash. The growth to ¥1 trillion in sales was built up through organic store openings without acquisitions.
