Background

He joined Iida Sangyo in November 1992 and moved from design to sales, serving as Assistant Manager of the Design Section, Deputy General Manager of Planning and General Manager of Sales at the head office. In August 2006 he became Representative Director and President of Iida Sangyo, and thereafter also served as president or chairman of group companies such as Build Home, Universal Home and First Wood. He owned only 82,000 shares of Iida Group Holdings, and in the FY ended March 2016 the top shareholders were Itsuki Shoji at 11.52%, Yoichi Nishikawa at 9.92% and Ichi Shoji at 6.47%.

Selection

In November 2013 six companies including Iida Sangyo combined through a share transfer to establish Iida Group Holdings. Kanei became a Director at the founding, while Hiroshi Nishino, President of Touei Housing, who also became a Director then, did not become Representative Director and Senior Managing Director until March 2022. Kanei moved ahead of him, becoming Representative Director and Executive Vice President in July 2017 and also head of Group Business Management in June 2018. In April 2021 he became Representative Director and President, taking over management from Yoichi Nishikawa. In the preceding FY ended March 2021, consolidated net sales were ¥1,456.2 billion and operating income ¥121.3 billion.

Initiatives

In January 2022 the company made 19 companies subsidiaries, including the Russian Far East forestry company Russia Forest Products (BVI) Limited and its affiliates. Two months later Russia invaded Ukraine, changing the premise of the acquired business. Consolidated net sales rose by ¥72.6 billion from ¥1,387.0 billion in the FY ended March 2022 to ¥1,459.6 billion in the FY ended March 2025, while operating income fell by ¥94.1 billion from ¥153.3 billion in the FY ended March 2022 to ¥59.2 billion in the FY ended March 2024, before recovering to ¥80.5 billion in the FY ended March 2025. In April 2025 he handed the presidency to Hiroshi Nishino.
