Background

He joined McKinsey & Company in April 1984 and became a Principal (Partner) in December 1993. He served as Representative Director and President of ASCII in June 2002, Representative Director of MediaLeaves in November that year, and its Representative Director and Chairman in November 2003. He became a Management Advisor at Unison Capital in June 2004 and Representative Director of Trinity Investment in December 2005. His career was on the management consulting and investment side, and his profile shows no employment at a textile or cosmetics operating company. He also owned no Kanebo shares.

Selection

He became Representative Executive Officer and President in January 2006, and the following February Director, Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO. His predecessor Akiyoshi Nakajima was a career employee who joined in April 1974, became Representative Director and President in March 2004 and moved to Director and Representative Executive Officer and Chairman in November that year. In the FY ended March 2005, before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥268.5 billion with an ordinary loss of ¥9.6 billion, and in June 2005 the company had been delisted from the First Sections of the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges. Given that Komori became Representative Director of Trinity Investment in December 2005, a month before taking office, he appears to have been a president sent in by the side holding the capital.

Initiatives

Right after taking office, in January 2006 he sold the shares of Kanebo Stocking, Kanebo Real Estate and Kanebo Holiday, and in February those of Kanebo Logistics, while also transferring the Lanvin brand license business. In May he transferred the home products and pharmaceutical businesses, sold the shares of Kanebo Foods, and moved the corporate staff functions to Kanebo Trinity Holdings, where he himself also served as Representative Director, CEO and President Executive Officer. Consolidated net sales fell from ¥139.4 billion in the FY ended March 2006 to ¥6.8 billion in the FY ended March 2007. In June 2007 he stepped down as President and became a Director.
