Background

He joined the family business Fukudaya Yofukuten in May 1971, becoming a director at the same time. He became Senior Managing Director in June 1982 and Representative Director and President of Bears Factory Ltd. in April 1991. He also ranked high as a shareholder, sixth with 4.7% in the FY ended February 2006 and fifth with 4.99% in the FY ended February 2011. In the FY ended February 2016 Fukuzo became the largest shareholder with 33.33%; it appears to be the Fukuda family's asset management company.

Selection

In March 1993 he became Representative Director and President as the second leader after founder Tetsuzo Fukuda, and that year renamed the company POINT. He had moved to Bears Factory in April 1991 and spent two years there before returning as president of the parent. He left the presidency to become Representative Director and Chairman in May 2004, and returned as Representative Director, Chairman and President in May 2010. He stepped back to chairman again in September 2013, became Representative Director, Chairman and CEO in May 2015, and took the presidency for a third time as Representative Director, Chairman and President in May 2018.

Initiatives

In his first term, consolidated net sales grew from ¥15.6 billion in the FY ended February 2002 to ¥27.9 billion in the FY ended February 2004. After his return in May 2010, net sales built up to ¥121.7 billion in the FY ended February 2013, but operating income fell from ¥15.3 billion in the FY ended February 2011 to ¥9.7 billion. The company shifted to a holding company structure in September 2013, and the operating company's name was changed to Adastria in June 2015. In his third term, the FY ended February 2020 recorded net sales of ¥222.4 billion and operating income of ¥12.9 billion, and in the FY ended February 2021 operating income fell to ¥0.8 billion with a net loss of ¥0.7 billion.
