Background
He joined Hakuhodo in April 1972 and advanced to Director in February 2001 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2002. In October 2003 he became Managing Director of Hakuhodo DY Holdings, formed through the business integration of Hakuhodo, Daiko Advertising and Yomiuri Advertising. From June 2005 he also served as a director of Yomiuri Advertising. After 31 years at the operating company, he joined the management of the holding company from its launch.
Selection
In June 2006, three years after the holding company's launch, he became Representative Director and President. He handled the holding company's functions as a division head, and from April 2007 also oversaw group strategy. In the fiscal year ended March 2006, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,111.1 billion, ordinary income ¥25.8 billion and net income ¥11.3 billion. The appointment placed someone who had overseen the practical work of the three-company integration since the holding company's founding at the top in the integration's fourth year.
Initiatives
In the FY ended March 2009, his third year, the company posted a net loss of ¥3.3 billion. In June 2010 he also became Representative Director and President of the operating company Hakuhodo, moving to chairman of Hakuhodo's board in April 2017. In the digital field, in 2018 the company made D.A.Consortium Holdings a wholly owned subsidiary through a tender offer. In the FY ended March 2019, his final year, consolidated net sales were ¥1,444.5 billion, ordinary income ¥68.7 billion and net income ¥47.2 billion, with net sales up ¥333.4 billion from the year before he took office.
