He joined Hakuhodo in April 1982 and advanced to Executive Officer in April 2013, Director and Executive Officer in June 2015, and Director and Managing Executive Officer in April 2016. In April 2017 he became Representative Director and President of the operating company Hakuhodo, and that June also joined the board of the holding company. He was a career employee who took 31 years from joining to become an executive officer.

In June 2019 he succeeded Hirokazu Toda as Representative Director and President, with his predecessor moving to Representative Director and Chairman. He became president of the holding company after two years as president of the operating company Hakuhodo, a post he kept concurrently until March 2025. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,444.5 billion, operating income ¥65.3 billion and net income ¥47.2 billion. As with his predecessor, the sequence was to elevate a former president of the operating company to the top of the holding company.

Consolidated operating income in the FY ended March 2021 was ¥45.0 billion, down ¥10.1 billion from the previous year. In the FY ended March 2022 operating income recovered to ¥71.6 billion and net income to ¥55.2 billion. In the FY ended March 2025 operating income was ¥37.6 billion and net income ¥10.8 billion. In June 2025 he moved to Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, handing the presidency to Yasuo Nishiyama.
