Background

He joined a steel trading company in 1961 and moved to Daiwa House Industry in August 1963. He became general manager of the special construction division at the Tokyo branch in April 1984, a Director that June, Managing Director in June 1989 and Senior Managing Director in June 1991. In June 1993 he left Daiwa House Industry to become Representative Director and President of Daiwa Danchi, and returned to Daiwa House Industry as a Director in June 2000.

In April 2001 he moved from President of Daiwa Danchi to President of Daiwa House Industry, a promotion ten months after returning to the parent as a Director. In his first fiscal year, ended March 2002, consolidated net sales were ¥1,197.9 billion and ordinary profit ¥44.6 billion, but net income was only ¥5.2 billion, and in the following year, ended March 2003, the company posted a net loss of ¥91.4 billion.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2004, following the ¥91.4 billion net loss of FY ended March 2003, results recovered to consolidated ordinary profit of ¥72.6 billion and net income of ¥37.3 billion, and net sales also grew to ¥1,224.6 billion. The consolidated workforce fell by 643, from 18,457 in FY ended March 2002 to 17,814 in FY ended March 2004.
