Selection

In June 2018 he succeeded Toshiaki Kitamura as Representative Director and President. The promotion came one year and two months after he joined in April 2017; he was not a career insider. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥933.7 billion and operating profit ¥357.4 billion, but net income was only ¥40.3 billion, continuing a low run after ¥16.7 billion in FY ended March 2016 and ¥46.1 billion in FY ended March 2017. At a time when falling resource prices had thinned profits, the company again turned to a former energy official.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended December 2020, net sales fell from ¥1 trillion the previous year to ¥771.0 billion, and the company posted a net loss of ¥111.6 billion. In April 2021 it changed its name from INPEX Corporation (Kokusai Sekiyu Kaihatsu Teiseki) to INPEX CORPORATION. In FY ended December 2022 it posted net sales of ¥2,324.6 billion, operating profit of ¥1,503.7 billion and net income of ¥461.0 billion, and in FY ended December 2025 it still secured net sales of ¥2,011.3 billion, operating profit of ¥1,135.4 billion and net income of ¥393.8 billion.
