Background
He joined the company in April 1997 and became a Director in June 2004. He rose to Managing Director in April 2007 and Executive Vice President in June 2017, and became Representative Director and President in June 2019, 22 years after joining. His directorship was not continuous, however: he left the board on becoming a Managing Executive Officer in June 2009 and returned as Managing Director in June 2012. He served about seven years in total as Managing Director and two years as Executive Vice President before becoming President.

In June 2019 he succeeded Tsuyoshi Tamamura as President, with Tamamura moving to Vice Chairman that month. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2019, revenue was ¥484.3 billion, operating profit ¥64.3 billion and net income ¥49.5 billion, with operating profit up from ¥51.1 billion the previous year. Founder Yasumitsu Shigeta remained as Chairman, and in the FY ended March 2015 Hikari Power held 42.1% and Shigeta personally 5.02% among the major shareholders.
Initiatives
In June 2019, the month he took office, Sakura Sonpo obtained a non-life insurance license. In April 2022 the company moved from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange to the Prime Market. Revenue rose from ¥484.3 billion in the year before his appointment to ¥686.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2025, and operating profit from ¥64.3 billion to ¥105.0 billion. From the FY ended March 2022 net income has repeatedly exceeded operating profit, and in the FY ended March 2025 net income was ¥117.5 billion against operating profit of ¥105.0 billion.
