Background

He joined the company in April 1991 and became a Director five years later, in November 1996. He rose to Managing Director in November 1999 and Executive Vice President in November 2001, and became Representative Director and President in June 2003, 12 years after joining. In October 2014 he also became Representative Director and President of EPARK. In the fiscal year ended March 2015 he held 2.39% of the company, ranking fourth among major shareholders.

In June 2003 he took over the presidency from founder Yasumitsu Shigeta, who moved to Representative Director and Chairman that month, giving the company two Representative Directors. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2003, revenue was ¥124.1 billion with a net loss of ¥7.9 billion, following a net loss of ¥16.1 billion in the FY ended March 2002. Consolidated revenue, ¥316.6 billion in the FY ended August 2000, had shrunk to just under 40% of that level.

Initiatives

In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2004, the company posted ordinary profit of ¥19.6 billion and net income of ¥10.6 billion, returning to the black. In April 2009 it began selling its own products in earnest, and it made FT Group a subsidiary in June 2013 and Premium Water Holdings in February 2015. In April 2017 it launched its electricity business in earnest. In the FY ended March 2019, his final year, revenue was ¥484.3 billion, operating profit ¥64.3 billion and net income ¥49.5 billion.
