Background
He joined Sumitomo Coal Mining in April 1954 and moved to Sumitomo Realty & Development in September 1971. Eight years after moving, in June 1979, he became a Director, then Managing Director in June 1983 and Senior Managing Director in June 1985. He became Representative Director in June 1986 and Executive Vice President in June 1991, reaching the presidency 23 years after switching from the Sumitomo group's coal company.

The promotion came 23 years after joining Sumitomo Realty & Development in September 1971 and 15 years after becoming a Director in June 1979. Over the same period ordinary profit grew 2.4 times from ¥47.1 billion to ¥112.4 billion, and net income rose from ¥22.9 billion to ¥50.2 billion. He stepped down as President in June 2007 and became Chairman.
