He joined Unicharm in April 1991 and became a Director four years and two months later, in June 1995. He became Managing Director in June 1997 and took charge of corporate strategy in October 2000, becoming President ten years and two months after joining. In the fiscal year ended March 2006 the largest shareholder was Unitec with 17.93%, followed by Takahara Kosan at 4.96% and Takahara Kikin at 4.52%. With family asset management companies holding double-digit voting rights, his succession appears to have had the backing of capital.

In June 2001 he became President, moving up from Managing Director in charge of corporate strategy. In the fiscal year ended March 2002, the year after he took office, non-consolidated net sales were ¥206.7 billion and net income ¥8.8 billion. The company relied mainly on disposable diapers and feminine care products in Japan, while operating bases across Asia that had expanded starting with Taiwan in 1984. In June 2004 he became Representative Director, President and Executive Officer.
Initiatives
In 2004 he launched an organizational reform built around the SAPS management meeting, delegating authority to the heads of local subsidiaries. The business was organized into two pillars, personal care and pet care. In 2014 the fiscal year-end was changed from March to December. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥738.7 billion in the year ended December 2015 to ¥945.3 billion in the year ended December 2025, and operating profit from ¥79.9 billion to ¥105.4 billion.
