Background

Born in 1926, he founded Biwako Denkyu Seisakusho, a limited company, in August 1950, and in July 1954 established Nihon Glass Shoji, becoming its Representative Director and President. The company began by selling glass tubing for ampoules and tablet bottles, so its roots lay in the glass trade. In November 1983 he also became Representative Director of Sanri Kosan. As of the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended March 2011 he held 1,993,419 Nipro shares, giving him the backing of capital as founder.

Selection

He had no predecessor. He became Representative Director and President when the company was founded in July 1954 and held the post for about 58 years until handing it to Yoshihiko Sano in May 2012. Even late in his tenure he kept an operational role, serving from April 2011 as Representative Director, President and General Manager of the Materials Division. His successor, Yoshihiko Sano, had joined Nipro Corporation (the sales arm) in November 1975, became a Nipro Director in June 2000 and Managing Director and General Manager of the Domestic Business Division in June 2006 before taking over.

Initiatives

He expanded a company that started in glass tubing sales into manufacturing and medical products. In March 1960 it began producing vials and similar items at the Otsu plant; in April 1965 it entered medical devices by selling infusion sets to pharmaceutical companies; and in August 1969 it made Tomizawa Seisakusho a subsidiary and began making medical devices in-house. It listed on the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange in February 1987, and in September 1988 took a stake in Hishiyama Pharmaceutical, extending into drugs. In April 2001 it absorbed its sales subsidiary Nipro Corporation and changed its name to Nipro Corporation. In 2006 it exited the retail business.
