Background

He joined Roland in March 1977, became a Director in charge of development in June 1994 and Managing Director in June 1999. His responsibilities and rank then changed several times: Director in charge of technical support in April 2002, Director in charge of development staff in April 2006 and Executive Officer in charge of the classic project in June 2007, before returning in June 2010 as Director in charge of organ and classic keyboard development. Throughout the 36 years from joining to becoming President, he remained in charge of development. In the fiscal year ended December 2020 he held 451,000 shares.

Selection

Junichi Miki, who became Managing Director in June 1999, became a Director in April 2002 and an Executive Officer in June 2007, temporarily leaving the board. He returned as a Director in June 2010 and three years later, in April 2013, succeeded Eiichi Tanaka as Representative Director, President and CEO. In the fiscal year ended March 2013, just before he took office, the company posted an operating loss of ¥0.5 billion and a net loss of ¥4.1 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥72.3 billion.

Initiatives

In April 2014 he became Representative Director of Tokowaka Corporation, which in July of that year acquired Roland shares and became its parent, leading to Roland's delisting from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October. In January 2015 Roland absorbed Tokowaka Corporation as the surviving company. In August 2015 it sold part of its shares in Roland DG, removing it from the equity method, in May 2016 it made the U.S. headphone company V-MODA a subsidiary, in January 2018 it absorbed BOSS Corporation, and in December 2020 it relisted on the First Section.
