Selection

In May 2009, founder Hirokazu Sugiura stepped back to Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, and Yoneda became Representative Director, President and COO. In the same officer list, Hirokazu Sugiura held 8,112 thousand shares and Akiko Sugiura 6,560 thousand, while the shareholding column for Yoneda was blank. Sugi Pharmacy had just changed its name to Sugi Holdings in September 2008 and moved to a holding company structure through an incorporation-type company split. With the founding family keeping both the capital and the chief executive post, only the execution was entrusted to a president from outside.

Initiatives

He served for one year, from May 2009 to May 2010, as president of both the holding company and Sugi Pharmacy. Consolidated net sales rose from ¥272.2 billion in the fiscal year ended February 2009 to ¥293.5 billion in the FY ended February 2010, while operating income fell from ¥11.8 billion to ¥10.1 billion. By the FY ended February 2009, Sugi Medical had acquired the clinical CRO and non-clinical businesses from Fuji Biomedix, and in March 2009 the company made the oncology-focused Temrik CRO a subsidiary, so he inherited healthcare-related businesses extending beyond dispensing.
