He joined Seiyu Store Nagano in April 1976 and moved to Ryohin Keikaku 17 years later, in September 1993. He rose through merchandise and sales roles, becoming Director and General Manager of the Household Goods Department in May 2000, Managing Director and head of the Sales Division in January 2001 and Representative Director and Senior Managing Director in May 2003. Counting from Seiyu Store Nagano, it was 31 years until he became President, 14 of them at Ryohin Keikaku.

In the fiscal year ended February 2007, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥157.0 billion, ordinary income ¥16.9 billion and net income ¥9.3 billion, higher sales and profits than the ¥140.1 billion, ¥15.7 billion and ¥9.3 billion of the year before. Consolidated employees also grew from 1,762 to 2,115.

Operating income fell to ¥14.1 billion in the FY ended February 2010, then recovered to ¥23.8 billion in the FY ended February 2015.
