Background
He joined McKinsey & Company in April 1993 and moved to Fast Retailing in September 1998. He became a Director that November, Managing Director in July 1999 and Executive Vice President in November 2004, and from August 2010 ran the U.S. business as CEO of FAST RETAILING USA. He joined Ryohin Keikaku in February 2019 as Senior Executive Officer and head of the Sales Division, and became Senior Managing Director in May that year.

In September 2021 he succeeded Satoru Matsuzaki as President. The promotion came two years and seven months after he moved to Ryohin Keikaku, a different path from Masaaki Kanai, who became President after 14 years at the company. In the fiscal year ended August 2020, two years earlier, the company posted a net loss of ¥16.9 billion; in the FY ended August 2021, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥453.6 billion and net income ¥33.9 billion.
