Background

He joined Yamatake in April 1989, became General Manager of the Environmental Marketing Department in the Building Systems Company's Marketing Headquarters in April 2007, and head of that headquarters in April 2011. Yamatake changed its name to Azbil in April 2012. In April 2014 he moved to Corporate Planning as Senior Manager and General Manager of the department, and from April 2017, as an Executive Officer, he headed both Corporate Planning and the Building Systems Company's Marketing Headquarters. His career alternated between the sales side of building HVAC control and company-wide planning; he never headed manufacturing or R&D.

Selection

He rose three ranks in three years—Executive Officer in April 2017, Managing Executive Officer in April 2018, Executive Vice President in April 2020—and two months later, in June 2020, became Representative Director and President, succeeding Hirozumi Sone. Takayuki Yokota, Representative Executive Vice President on the same board, joined Fuji Bank in April 1983 and moved to Azbil in April 2013 as a mid-career hire, a different path from Yamamoto, who was raised inside the company. In June 2022 Yamamoto's title changed to Director, Representative Executive Officer and President.

Initiatives

In April 2022 the company moved from the First Section to the Prime Market under the Tokyo Stock Exchange's market restructuring, and in June it switched from a company with a board of auditors to a company with nomination and other committees. In October 2024 it transferred its entire stake in Spain's Azbil Telstar to Syntegon Technology GmbH, unwinding an investment begun in January 2013. In March 2025 it established Azbil Vietnam Production to add a manufacturing base. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥246.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2021 to ¥300.4 billion in FY ended March 2025, and operating income from ¥25.7 billion to ¥41.5 billion.
